December Meeting 12/4

Brewers and humans who enjoy that which is fermented, here are the details of the December meeting/party. From our illustrious leader Asa:

The winter party/meeting is this Saturday (December 4th). Bill and Lucy have once again graciously offered their house to host the event. (starting at 6:30PM: click for map).

Remember: everyone bring your dues ($5)

If this is your first time attending a winter party/meeting, please be aware that we have a white elephant gift exchange during the event. The gifts should inexpensive and are normally comprised of beer or liqueur shwag and funny, funky junk. We love re-gifting!

I will bring what club shirts we have left, but sizes are limited. If you want a shirt, I recommend purchasing one right away upon arrival.

I will bring the normal heavy appetizer-style food that we normally have. Bringing a a side dish or dessert is not mandatory, but we would love anything you may want to share– especially dessert items (as we typically have few of these).

The club-brewed Smoked Porter will be on tap.

If you have a sample of your contest beer, please bring it to share!

Please RSVP as soon as possible (by Thursday would be great); it makes shopping much easier.

Field Trip to Coeur d’Alene

The Zoo City Zymurgists like to take a yearly field trip to some great breweries to set our spring off right. This year, some intrepid members took an overnight to Coeur d’Alene and Sandpoint, Id. The breweries in those cities searched us out and invited us to see their outfits and sample their excellent brews. Many thanks to these breweries for the hospitality they extend to our club.

Community Brew unveiling

March 11th, 2010

The Community Brew unveiling is March 11th, at Big Sky brewing. This is a members-only event, but what it means is that the winning community brew is now ready for everyone to enjoy!. Stop by Big Sky brewing, thank them for doing this project each and every year and sample the India Brown Ale brewed by ZCZ member Mike Hoffer and Big Sky.

Proceeds from the Community Brew are going to ZCZ and the Watson’s Children’s Shelter.

2010 Community Brew Results

January 18th, 2010

Here are the results from head brewer, Matt Long:

A record 38 entries were submitted, but we were able to come up with a judging format that did not fatigue our palates.

We had 9 beers make it to the final table:

Mike’s beer best represented what we though an IBA should be. A very nice malty presence with a unique hop explosion on the finish.

We have the beginning of a dynasty here as Mike was the winner of the 2^nd annual Community brew. Congratulations to Mike.

Way to go Mike!

Community Brew Update

January 14th, 2010

Well, the entries have been entered and judging should be taking place this week. According to Matt Long at Big Sky, we have 34 entries, which I believe is a new record! Way to go Montana Homebrewers! Thank you all for your entries. We’ll update this page when we know who won, and also as we decide who will be our chosen charity for this year.
