Community Brew
Each year, the homebrew club collaborates with Big Sky Brewing on our Community Brew project. It works like this:
- Big Sky Brewing approves a beer style
- Club brewers brew up a bunch of homebrew examples of that style
- Bigsky beer experts judge the samples and select a winner
- The winning homebrewer helps to brew a commercial-sized (really big) batch at Bigsky
- The winning beer is served to delighted beer lovers in the Bigsky taproom
- After ingredient costs are covered, proceeds are divided between the club and a non-profit organization selected by club members and Bigsky.
Cool, huh?
Previous beers, winners, and non-profit beneficiaries of the Community Brew include:
- 2006: Chad brewed the winning dunkelweizen, and Community Focused Disaster Response was our non-profit
- 2007: Mike Hoffer brewed an ESB, and our non-profit was the Missoula Urban Demonstration Project
- 2008: John Masterson brewed a porter, and our non-profit was Garden City Harvest
- 2009: Jasper Miller brewed a Strong Scotch Ale , and our nonprofit was Missoula Food Bank.
- 2010: Mike Hoffer (again!) brewed an India Brown Ale, and our nonprofit was Watson’s Children’s Shelter.
Here’s to Community. Here’s to Beer. Here’s to the Community Brew.
